Day 1

Arrival in San Martino di Castrozza late morning and check in to hotel. We know that the evening will be intense, so don''t miss the chance to have an excellent lunch at the "Da Anita" retaurant, giving the right energy for taking on our first snowshoe walk in the area. At 16:30 appointment with our alpine guide that will take us to a sunset excursion, walking in the magical and silent woods, in the search of new, strong sensations offered by the immense starry sky and by the reflections of light on the snow. Tiredness is forgotten thanks to the whirlwind of emotions; glimpses of animal tracks in the snow which give a real feeling of a contact with nature.
The unforgettable experiences comes to a close with a warming bowl of barley soup before turning in for the night.

Day 2
We get up for an early departure from the Colverde - Rosetta site to meet up with the alpine guide. It seems he is in perfect form after the evening before, whereas we are feeling a little guilty… However, enthusiasm levels soon catch up at the same rate as the incline of the cable car, and a few minutes later we reach the Pala High Plains, alt. 2,700m, and we are charged up like a spring. The air is freezing, but the warmth of the sun gives us the energy to continue our adventure. With sun cream, sunglasses and snow shoes on, we leave to explore this new territory at the heels of our guide. White dunes spread over a 50km2 area almost seem to not even allow a glimpse of the edge of this heaven on earth. Up down and around we come to the base of the Fradusta glacier, with the Lower Pradidali Pass on our right, and to our left in the distance we catch sight of the Marmolada. Just time for a few photos and we''re off again, this time to the Fradusta peak. Step by step we reach the heights, almost breathless from the beauty of the views. The alpine guide rattles off the names of the mountains as if they were his children; you can see the passion in his eyes. To go back down is a real shame, but the sun is setting and it''s time to go back to the town and recharge batteries after the tiring day.

Day 3
Today, the destination is Val Venegia. We get to the Rolle Pass in only 15 minutes with the ski bus, where the famous Cimon della Pala stands out. Its outline is similar to the Matterhorn, and has an aura of magic about it. Kitted up, we start to climb until we reach the Baita Segantini refuge. Just time for a few photos and it''s time to go back down, as a rare beauty slowly opens out in front of us: the Val Venegia, spread out at the foot of the Pale di San Martino and dominated by the peaks of Mulaz and the Cimon della Pala. It is on the edge of the Paneveggio Forest, and lies within the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Natural Park.
For centures, wood from this forest has been used for making musical instruments, which gives the forest its other name: The Forest of Violins.
Descending along the valley we come to the rustic Malga Venegiota, and go along the banks of the Travignolo torrent, which will take us all the way to Malga Venegia, where we can order plates of traditional local food, expertly prepared. We reach the Car Park of the Pian dei Casoni where we pick up the shuttle which will take us back to the Rolle Pass and then back down to San Martino di Castrozza.

Day 4
With some sadness the moment has arrived to go home, suitcases packed in the car, we enjoy the view for a few more moments, we will surely be back soon. On the way back we stop off at Fiera di Primiero for a visit to the village with many shops to discover. Last stop at the Caseificio di Primiero buy up some of those tasty cheeses we devoured in the Alpine huts! Their flavour will help us to make the return to our daily lives less painful.
